Hello all

I am interested to hear from anyone who has a view on best practice for SQL
database backups for Dynamics Ax installations.

Network providers or Site Administrators of course provide the off-site backup
for whole systems, and this is the official backup, the last line of defence.

However, the backups created by SQL Server (disk to disk) are also in place -
that can hold copies of the Database and Transactions Logs for flexible rolling
time periods.

In fact, backing up the Transaction Logs this way creates the space that can be
removed through "shrink" processes. Also a disk copy of the previous night's
database can be useful to restore to test and development systems.

By now you can see that I am not the specialist in the area; all the same I am
wanting to build up my background knowledge and I'm keen to know what sound
policy is.

TIA
George
