Hi all,

As the Axim ports seem to be 2.6 based, some of you may be
interest in this latest release, with the idea that a static
kernel could easily be produced to support your port.

Please let me know if you would like your port included
on the wiki ... or compile a suitable kernel and edit
it yourself! :)

Marcus.

Original message:

Ramdisk Rescue 0.6.2 released

Overview:
=========
Ramdisk Rescue allows Linux to be installed to a flash
card (SD, MMC or CF) using a handheld, without requiring
a separate computer to format the card. In other words,
Ramdisk Rescue is an automated installer for Familiar
Linux, which works just like the installer for your
desktop distribution. Maintenance and kernel testing are
also possible, including the ability to diagnose and
correct filesystem problems, check board/device versions
and test audio+LED support.

Device Support:
===============
Ramdisk Rescue currently supports both h2200 and h4000
handheld devices (with hx4700 in development), but aims
to support any handheld supported by Familiar (or is
under development), and is written with device independence
in mind.

News:
=====
Although this was originally intended to be just a bugfix
release, a vast number of improvements have been included
such as support for more devices, to the stage where
Ramdisk Rescue is now essentially a mini-distro.

Ramdisk Rescue is now hosted at SourceForge and all
source has been imported into an SVN repository there.
 see http://sourceforge.net/projects/ramdisk-rescue
 and http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/ramdisk-rescue/

A conversion has been made, also, so that Ramdisk Rescue
can now be bitbaked. Recipes and INSTALL instructions
can be seen in the SVN repository, including maintenance
scripts. The latest version is automatically regenerated
each day at 3AM AEDT (GMT+10/11) if there are any changes
made to the SVN repository (update system in testing).
Please see the wiki for the latest version and information:

New Features:
=============
 - beta support for h4000 handhelds.
 - support for large flash cards (eg. 2GB).
 - international language support for file system checks.
 - more accurate (and more economical) extraction status
    monitoring.
 - automatic "bad kernel" correction (eg. from Familiar
    0.8.4 h2200 image) by copying good kernel from
    extracted filesystem.
 - more options available in custom.txt (info included).

Bugfixes:
=========
 - screen no longer times out (ever:).
 - added an "extraction complete" audio message.
 - beautified picture of buttons by removing borders.
 - kernel command arguments moved to startup.txt.
 - USB networking and SSH access are started at boot time.

Thanks:
=======
Many thanks to testers and contributors so far, in
particular to Paul Sokolovsky who has done a great
deal of heavy lifting, not just to support the h4000,
but creating the bitbake method, many improvements,
and a good deal of encouragement.

Have fun with RR :)
Contributions and comments are welcome.
