Hi all !

I did some more testing on the Ångström image there already is for x51v with the
newest kernel .
There are some tricks you can use to make it easier to use it for testing purposes.
Before booting with haret put on the mirror mode and wlan on.
After succesful boot and login:
Set the login mode so, that it don't ask the password, (or set an empty password).
Go to settings at first and calibrate the screen very carefully.
After that it usually works for some time quite good.
Go to settings and change the Keyboard type to the touch pad type, which makes it much larger,
and easier to use.
When the touch screen starts to behave nasty recalibrate the screen at once or if that don't help
reboot.
I think the behaviour might also be partly a memory problem.
It migth help if you could free some memory, but now that is difficult without booting. You would have to install a graphical program or a launhcer for a script for doing that, because it is difficult to give
any commands on the console after the misbehaviour gets serious.
Do any necessary editing of conf files on PC and copy them to SD card to /etc on the ext2, before booting Axim. I will edit the ipkg.conf and copy it and copy package-files to /opt and try to install more packages from there. Let's see if it works. This eliminates the need of network functions working, so you don't
need to setup the network connection every time.
First have to recharge battery so, I will do that later.

Here is the pertinent part of my startup.txt file:

# This is startup file for HaRET, Linux bootloader for WinCE
# http://handhelds.org/wiki/HaRET

set kernel "zImage-2.6.21-hh20-r20-aximx50v.bin"

# Boot choices. Uncomment 'set' statements in exactly one section

## Choice 1 - Boot from SD/MMC card
# Have 2 partition on a card:
# 1st - FAT with HaRET executable, this file and zImage above
# 2nd - EXT2 with rootfs tarball extracted
set cmdline "root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootdelay=10 console=ttyS0,115200n8
console=tty0"

This file came automatically with the build, and it seems to be
correct. I only had to remove the ".bin" at the end of the kernel
name since the actual kernel file itself didn't have that extension.
I also tried the file that is available on the handhelds.org wiki,
although it seems to be pretty old.

Although I will try again, I thought I tried various combos of
wifi/bluetooth on and off, and mirror mode on/off with no success.
There is one strange issue involving this all, however. Whenever I go
to the mirror mode setting screen, I do not see anything except the
check box to enable it, and a few random artifacts scattered on the
screen. I don't know how this happened, or if it is possibly some
kind of font issue or something. I just assume by checking the box
mirror mode is enabled.\

As far as building the image, check out the openembedded project at
www.openembedded.org. It's pretty easy to set up and everything, and
the axim support is already in there to be able to just tell it that's
what you want to build for and kick off the build.

Thanks,

Thats great!

I have been looking into cross compiling the kernel for a while now, and
only recently did i find how i could possibly do it. I tried many things
including building a toolchain for ARM etc but always something went
wrong.

So i am really interested if you have any tips on how to do set up the
toolchain.

As for the error, there is something wrong with your boot parameters, as
in your haret starts ok, but there is probably something wrong with the
"kernel=.. root=.." command.

Can you paste it here, along with your kernel name etc?

Thanks alot,
Stavros

Hi all,

In the last month I've started to familiarize myself with the project
and have set up a development environment to help contribute to it. I
own a x51v and want to put it to good use. I hope I can help do
something useful for everyone. I have successfully built Angstrom
images for my axim using the openembedded environment.

So far I have been unable to boot anything I have built, however. I
am using Haret 0.5.1 so maybe I need to try dropping down to 0.4.8
which I see people linking to. It just gets stuck at "Jumping to
kernel." If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

I am Linux savvy and am a software developer by day, developing in
Linux, for Linux, so I hopefully have a good foundation to help out.

Thanks,

~Lou
