Please take a look at the Sage Notebook Interface.

It seems to have most (all?) of the feature that you describe
with interfaces to several open source computer algebra systems
including Gap, Magma, GP/PARI and Maxima.

I am quite sure we could interest some Sage users in an
interface to Axiom.
