My original plan -- as I tried to communicate to Tim last week -- was
pricesely that we should make the process modula so that we have the
kind you subdivision you are proposing even if "make" just ends up
doing the whole.  I have seen *successful lagre projects* (much larger
and complex than Axiom) work that way.  Axiom is painting itself in a
coerner that can only harm it.
