I just re-tried using gcl-2.6.8 on Debian unstable. Previously
build died when making BSD (due to 'msgfmt'). I wanted to test
'--disable-nls' option, but this time build failed much earlier,
already gcl configure barfed:

The machine was not updated for long time, so this may be due to
machine misconfiguration...
