I don't have the APIs handy, but you should check out the CommonsHTTPSender.java and HTTPSender.java classes to see how you can set HTTP headers in requests via properties.
In the CommonsHTPPSender class for instance, see the addContextInfo() function, which transfers users headers to the request.
