In fact, it's simply a new directory. So, why remove it?
I've just removed it because even though it's purely additionaly right now, if we want to make changes (like I just have [1]) it's easier to only have to maintain one place. Additionally it'll be easier to keep track of the status of the branch if the number of updates is kept to the minimum.
However, if you do, please do not forget to remove the modules entry in the tools POM as well.
