In my own code, I use the class MessageElement instead of the interface
SOAPElement.

The code:
        QName element = new QName(__SOME_NAMESPACE_URI__,
__SOME_NAME__);
        XXX.addChildElement(new MessageElement(element, "Text node
value"));
works fine.
