Thank you for looking at my issue.

I added that namespace (I tried both the <xs:schema> and <xs:import>) and it
still does not generate the xml:id attribute in the objects.

You need to also declare the "xml" namespace prefix:

xmlns:xml="http://www.w3.org/XML/1998/namespace";
