The best alternative is to mirror traffic to this mailing list to a news server. This
is done with all of the jakarta.apache.org mailing lists. It allows anyone to read
the same mailing list with any NNTP news reader.

I think this is the best answer for two reasons:

1) It allows flexability in viewing either a mailing list or any NNTP newsreader.
There are TONS of these including Mozilla, and IE. To see a sample of this interface
point your browser at news://news.gmane.org and try subscribing to
"gmane.comp.jakarta.tomcat.user". This gets the exact same traffic as
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]".

2) More importantly, all discussion stays in one place. Keeping up to date is easier.
 No duplication of effort.

What remains is to have someone from apache grant this mailing list this
functionality. Is there anyone out there from apache who can comment?
