Axis Engine: NoClassDefFoundException

When a WSDD is created using an Axis Engine, I get a Linkage Error 
(NoClassDefFoundException) when I publish a Service without a package name 
(i.e. package myservice.example.foo;). I was wondering where and why this 
is happening?
