I think I solved it - I managed to recreate my problem here, my app/project was putting another copy of xerces.jar and xml-apis.jar into the distribution area/classpath of the plugin. Once I removed them, my code started to work fine. So I'll try the same at work in the morning and everything -should- in theory be sitting pretty :)
