I have the Wrox Axis book and believe it is not a bad introduction. It is
pretty dated, but gives you a least some info. Significant portions of the
book now are dated or plain wrong, but it's a quick read.
I also have the SAMS: "Java Web Service Unleashed" title. It's a pretty
good book in that it provides chapters on WSDL, SOAP, JAX-RPC, etc. It does
have some coverage of Axis, though it is very thin.

I have another book by SAMS: "Java Web Service Unleashed" (I have the
italian
version: "Java Web Service" by Apogeo); this book has a chapter on AXIS,
but i think the old beta version, not 1.1 version.
