Hi Anne

Thanks, yes this, sadly, is as I thought!

It does seem that the current trend does not favour rpc/encoded, however Semantic web initiatives have identified the SOAP Encoding as an alternative XML data syntax for a common edge-labelled graph data model. This becomes particularly interesting when used with RDF/Semantic Web query or inference services.

As part of the SWAD-Europe project (http://www.w3.org/2001/sw/Europe/) I have been using Axis together with Sesame - "Open Source RDF Schema-based Repository and Querying Facility" - to provide working examples of scenarios where for example:

1) clients are able to exchange SOAP messages in the "normal" way (using java object marshalling/unmarshalling with Axis in this case) with what happens to be an "intelligent" Web Service.
By "intelligent" Web Service I generally mean one that uses inferencing over aggregated data to link (Web) concepts and hence provide accurate, exhaustive results data in response to a broad range of incoming queries.

2) clients are able to exchange SOAP messages with Web Services, transforming SOAP encoded response data into RDF data. This permits a number of scenarios for the client - they may aggregate incoming data with their own RDF data for "intelligent" use.

The SWAD-E team are due to publish reports and working examples on the above work over the next 3 months and I will likely post to the list about this as it happens,

Thanks

Nikki

It doesn't support it now.

But that's a good question. Will it support it in the future. Per the
specification [1]:

"Due to their optional nature, it is NOT a requirement to implement the
SOAP Data Model, the SOAP Encoding and/or the SOAP RPC Representation as
part of a SOAP node."

Given the strong industry movement to use only document/literal, I'd say
that support for SOAP 1.2 encoding is pretty low on the priority list.

Subject: Does Axis support SOAP 1.2 encoding?

Hi

I notice that Axis 1.1 uses the SOAP 1.1 encoding for RPC/encoded
messaging.

Are there plans to soon support the latest as at
http://www.w3.org/TR/soap12-part2/
?

Many thanks

Nikki
