I don't have an answer for you, but can perhaps add something that
might help in tracking this down.

"&amp;#x0" is probably coming from &#x0, which is the NULL
character, which is not legal in any XML document.  so perhaps you
can use TCPMon (or some other tool) to look for NULL characters in
the stream, and trace back from there.
