I was able to implement the handling of gzipped input files (.xsl, .xsp, .xml) using an alternate provider as you suggested. I also used an alternate ConfigReader to handle the setting of Content-Encoding in DoGzip. If you or anyone is interested in these two files, let me know where to send them.
