XInclude support has been implemented since June 2001. So why not grep
the current AxKit version at

http://axkit.org/download/AxKit-1.5.tar.gz

and you will be able to do things like

<xi:include xmlns:xi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XInclude";
href="http://www.berjon.com/dahut.txt"/>

in your XML files?

Michael

P.S.:
You still have the option use external entities or document() then.
