Gnome Shell has a single "me menu" merging sessions & IM status which also has a link for Control Center. I think having a link in either the me menu or the session menu is a good idea for consistency with Gnome 3. The new Control Center is pretty nice but unfortunately it doesn't look like we'll get it in 11.04 except through the Gnome 3 PPA. My preference is for it to be in the me menu or at least moved above "Log Out" in the session menu. I think putting Control Center on the left launcher by default gives it way too much prominence as there's limited space there.
