HI Robin --

I did a quick search on Ancestry.com on Ambrose Caldera. The only Ambrose
Caldera (b 1848 and born in the Azores) that came up in the Census records
(1900,1910 and 1920) is a patient at Agnews State Hospital. Interesting.  I
have no idea if that was the brother of Mary and Innocencia as listed below.

Cynthia this lists your Innocencia (Emma) Caldera Nunes.  My Mother and I were
speaking on this phone this afternoon regarding genealogy.  She was going back
thru her genealogy "stuff" and was reading this obit to me.  When she mentioned
your Innocencia, I asked if she could transcribe this and send it to me.   I'll
need to get with her in the next couple weeks and see if I can scan some of
these.  Of course, their copies of copies, so I'm not sure how well they'll
come thru.  But, it did mention more Caldera / Nunes family members...they are
obits.  Take care and I hope this helps, Robin Borba Besotes

Beloved Pioneer  Mother Passes:  Husband was Early Orchardist

Hollister lost one of its most prominent pioneer mothers in the passing of Mrs.
Maria L. Caldera Saturday night.  The beloved woman was 82 years old.  Mrs. Cal
dera resided in Hollister and vicinity for the past 60 years.  She came here
with her husband when the railroad from Gilroy to Hollister was being built.
They operated a ranch on the Tres Pinos  road, the present Stephenson ranch for
several years.   Her husband who proceeded in death by 18 years is credited
with being one of the first orchardists of San Benito county.  With a few other
pioneers he started planting fruit trees that resulted in the valley being
transformed from hay and ggrain fields to the thousands of acres of highly
productive orchards.   The deceased was the mother of  nine children four of
which are still living.  Her friends were numerous and she was a devoted church
member.  She was also an active member of S. P.R.S.I.  Council No. 36 of
Hollister.

Mrs. Caldera is survived by two daughters,  Mrs. Mary Reimer and Frances
Caldera of Hollister.  Two sons,  Antone Caldera  of  Tres Pinos and Joe
Caldera of Hollister and a brother Ambrose Caldera of San Jose and a sister,
Inocencia  Nunes of San Juan.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:00am from the family residence at
1057 Monterey street.  Following at the Sacred Heart church requiem mass will
be said.  Interment will be at the Calvary cemetery.  Arrangements are under
the direction of the Black-Cooper Mortuary.  The rosary will be recited at the
family residence tonight at 8:00 o’clock
