"Wilhelmina" is a translation of "Guilhermina."  Both names are feminine 
versions of "William."  "Wilhelmina" comes from the German, however, so I 
wouldn't exactly consider it an Americanized version.
 
If your Guilhermina Pereira lived in a Portuguese community, she probably 
wouldn't have changed her name.  That's my guess, anyway.
