I suspect I'll see others I've "bumped into" before on Azorean
genealogical mailing lists, but I've been off them for awhile.  But
now I'm heading that way, so thought I'd try and catch up with news on
the genealogical front in Faial etc.

Emmanuel DIAZ, my gt.gt. grandfather
b. 31 August 1840, Faial
and that's all I know of his time before coming to New Zealand, where
he died, aged 98.

Francis DIAZ
~ a fellow master mariner, whose records give this information:
b. 11 May 1842, Peak Pike (sic), Azores

Yes, I do realise that the Portuguese spelling should be DIAS. But,
we... the descendants.. have obviously adopted the way Emmanuel
recognised it, and passed it on.

I arrive in Faial on 27th July this year.  Sooooooo exciting to
finally be getting there.
