I suspect I'll see others I've "bumped into" before on Azorean genealogical mailing lists, but I've been off them for awhile. But now I'm heading that way, so thought I'd try and catch up with news on the genealogical front in Faial etc.
background: Emmanuel DIAZ, my gt.gt. grandfather b. 31 August 1840, Faial and that's all I know of his time before coming to New Zealand, where he died, aged 98. >From NZ records there is also a Francis DIAZ ~ a fellow master mariner, whose records give this information: b. 11 May 1842, Peak Pike (sic), Azores Yes, I do realise that the Portuguese spelling should be DIAS. But, we... the descendants.. have obviously adopted the way Emmanuel recognised it, and passed it on. I arrive in Faial on 27th July this year. Sooooooo exciting to finally be getting there. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [email protected].
