Judith: The Hawaii State Library and the State Archives have old Portuguese Language Newspapers. They are on microfiche. There may be other's in Hawaii that have them that I don't know about. Maybe there is a way to connect.

I am the archivist at the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese American Archives at Umass Dartmouth. We plan to digitize O Heraldo Portuguez next (a twice yearly Taunton paper), and later in the year begin to do a series of California papers yet to be selected. If anyone knows of sources of original copies of similar papers, anywhere in the US, we would love to borrow them and digitize them as well. Thank you so much for the link. I've been able to find information on family members who moved to Fall River in the 1800/1900 through the link supplied on this list, two days ago in the Diario dos Acores I found a couple of ads dating back to 1952 and 1963 detailing all about the family of JOHN VICENTE and da Costa. Many thanks to the President of Açores and the State of MA for such wonderful coloboration and to the Azores group for providing the link.
