Thanks Cheri.On my grandfather's side: Basically the same as Wendy Soares and Patricia Mudd. Our great-great grandfather was Jose Soares de Figueiredo (1840-1910), GGM was Bernardina Jacintha Soares (1856-aft 1910). Jose travelled to California a few times, first single and then with Bernardina. They had their first three children in Califronia (possibly all three at Mission San Jose in Fremont, CA. Through various ship records I have found Manoel was born @ Mission San Jose. I would like a record from the Mission if that is possible. I am also interested in Joaquin de Figueiredo. He is buried with my grandparent Bernardino Soares de Figueiredo (1887-1954) and Bernardina F. Pereira (1892-1966) in St. Mary's cemetery in Oakland, CA. I know Bernardino and Bernardina were third cousins, and would like to know the common ground. I believe Joaquin would fill in the gap as he might be my grandmother's uncle. Bernardina's father was Joao Figueiredo Pereira (1841-1916) and her mother was Maria Jacintha Jose de Moura (1860-1930). They are all from the Santa Barbara parish. Is this enough to get started? By the way, my aunt was married to Raymond Mello from San Francisco, but I know nothing of his family other than he had a sister Dolly, also of San Francisco. Tish
