Hi Linda,
No the records are not on line yet :-(. The process to get them on line is going to take years. You said Antonio left the Acores in the early 1900's. Do you know about what year? I'm trying to find out via my aunt if my father's cousin Padre Antone de Sousa de Rocha from Ribeira Grande can do it for me. He is 86 and not well, but we'll see. He is on my father's maternal side. You have to send money and the information to get the records, it's not on line yet, correct? Let's see what my aunt and cousin can do for me. Thanks, Linda _____ From: azores@googlegroups.com [mailto:azo...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of rfrancispimen...@comcast.net Sent: Tuesday, October 27, 2009 8:08 AM To: Azores@googlegroups.com Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Marianno Furtado Hi Linda, Let me see if I understand this correctly, Marianno never came to Canada or the US. His son Antonio did in the early 1900's went back and then returned 1919/1920 and later went back and he died in the Acores in 1945. If that is the case the only way we are going to find out if Marianno Furtado is actually Marianno Furtado Pimentel is to A: get his marriage record or B: get his birth record (idealy both). In either case it will require sending to the Archives in Ponta Delgada to get copies of the records. If you have contacts in Sao Miguel perhaps they could do it for you. She tried to give me what she had, but it was on my Grandmother and not my Grandfather. They thought I had it because my Dad was with me, but I went through everything I didn't see any paperwork regarding Marianno. I thought my Grandmother would had given everything to my Uncle when she came back here with him in 1951 or 1953. She was going to try and ask my Dad's cousin, Padre Anton from Ribeira Grande if he could find something, but he's not well himself being 85 and he is on my father's maternal side. Most of my father's paternal side has passed over there and only cousins left here who I haven't seen since I was a child so that isn't helping. According to my Uncle and my Dad when he was living, it was my grandfather Antonio Furtado son of Marianno who came to the US, but nothing on Marianno coming here. He did tell me that only his Aunt Marianna and Uncle Jose stayed there, but then his father went back and remained till he died in 1945. All their children came here or Canada. He said the parents came in the early 1900's went back and then some came again 1919/1920. I know jumping around is hard, but I think it's because it seems cousins married within the families, so we seem to be all interrelated especially from the same town, don't you think?
