Another possibility is a newspaper obit. I recently found the birth island for
someone in the obit written in one newspaper and it was not mentioned in

Do you have the death certificates on your ancestors? If so, what did it say
for place of birth? Do you have the marriage (license, too) on your
ancestors? If so, what did it say for their places of births? What do the
births from the 7 kids say about the parents' place of birth?
Those are some of the places where the village may have been stated.
