The only thing I might know is that post-1910 records are stored in
local municipal buildings -- as opposed to in Regional Archives (in
the case of São Jorge, in the Angra Public Library).  I vaguely recall
on my first visit to São Jorge that my cousin Carlos tried to check
something for me in Calheta, but it turned out to have been pre-1911,
alas.  Presumably Velas keeps its own hard copies of records, though I
have no idea re online availability.  Can you email for guidance their
city or concelho hall?  Or maybe to the Velas Public Library?  Just a
