I have LOTS of ancestors from Ponta Garca and Povoacao. Too many to mention.
What are the names of some of your ancestors? The oldest ones would be the
best.

I am in the Chicago area, and use the Naperville IL FHC. They have 2 of the
narrow-film viewers, with different magnifications, out of about 12 viewers
total. They have seen better days (I had to learn to get one of them to focus
-it's an art, requiring one to reach up and press on the cover plate of the
film guide to sharpen the left side of the image) but as far as I can tell,
there is only one woman reading Italian films and myself who use them. But I
am grateful that their

hours are generous, the facility is only a few miles from my house and that
my skinny little film boxes are easy to find in the drawers packed with the fat
ones!

I know the Los Angeles Family History has undergone an extensive renovation.
We used to have 100 microfilm readers. Now there is way less (maybe 40)? The
film room was turned into offices and storage. The offices and computer area
was turned into very nice offices and the film area (no longer a separate
room). Part of the book area is now classrooms, but very nice, like the ones
in Salt Lake. However, I was usually the only one there researching Azores
film in Los Angeles.

The Oakland Family History Center (FHC) had about 4 of the film readers that
could read the Azores film. I heard you folks used to have to elbow each other
out for a film reader! LOL I thought I had heard somewhere that Oakland was
remodeled. If they did, then Oakland would probably have only 2 readers for
that small film.

Does anyone on this list still use the Oakland FHC? Was it remodeled? How
are your film readers?
