Gov. Lincoln Chaffee signed the newly passed bill into law this past Friday that allows adoptees to obtain an unofficial copy of their original birth certificate. The adoptees must be 21 years old and this law does not take effect until 1 July 2012. There is a bill pending in the legislature lowering the age to 18. Richard A. Matera
