I don't think this is a free upgrade. Family Tree Maker keeps milking this money cow by adding these newer versions which to me are no real improvements over the previous versions. I am sure they will send you an email and offer the newer version at a reduced amount and tell you all about it. The version I liked the best was the FTM 16. Since then all their changes seemed to be pointed toward their on line site, services and sharing which I do not care about.
