I would start by compiling all the information on all the Jose Faustino's in
the parish and see if you can rule some of them out. For example some may
have been too old and some too young.  DNA testing may be helpful if you can
document some lines.

Yes that is an interesting piece of information that I came across with the
father listed as Jose Faustino in the marriage record of Joseph Foster even
though his birth record said pai incognito. I also think that he may of
known who his father was but it will be hard to pin down exactly who because
there are multiple Jose Faustino's listed in the same parish of Santa
Catharina in Calheta, Sao Jorge. So far I have found at least 4 to 6
possibilities, so I would need to narrow down the list.
