A little off the genealogy topic, but I have question about malasadas. When I was growing up, I never heard of malasadas. We had filhos, fried dough rolled in sugar. I didn't hear about malasadas until we went to Hawaii. My family is from the southern Alameda County area of California. Is there actually a difference in the recipe or is it a difference in the name?
