Hi,

A little off the genealogy topic, but I have question about malasadas. When
I was growing up, I never heard of malasadas. We had filhos, fried dough
rolled in sugar. I didn't hear about malasadas until we went to Hawaii. My
family is from the southern Alameda County area of California. Is there
actually a difference in the recipe or is it a difference in the name?

Silva Bakery <http://silvabakery.com/> is in Hayward, about an hour west of
Modesto/Stockton area. The owner/operator is a Silva immigrant from Azores.
He and his son just created and sent a nice variety box of goodies to my
step-dad for his 80th birthday in Idaho. They ship most places.
