Altino, Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, the only word preceding "piedade" is "born." "Piedade" isn't capitalized either. Everyone else in this family group was born in Sao Mateus, Pico, so I'm inclined to think it isn't a reference to the parish in Sao Miguel. I will check it out nevertheless.
