I don't know how common your example is but it fits with in the Portuguese
naming conventions. The basic rule for names is any name can be used.

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Naming

My GGmother came from the Azores. Is it common for a daughter to have her
Mothers name as well as her Fathers name? Example-Jennie Silva(Mothers
Maiden Name) Solomon(Fathers name)...

while her brother has only Manuel Solomon?
