Lee, So happy that the problem is solved! This happened a lot. A woman died in childbirth and the husband remarried soon (as he had a baby to care for) and the woman he married as a second wife was the “mother” to that baby. Maybe Jose didn’t even know Emilia wasn’t his Mom. You might want to go back in the marriage records and find the 1st marriage to see if there were any other children besides Jose born to that couple.

Having trouble seeing his parents names which are supposed to be Bernardo and Vitoria Maria Teixeira and Manuel Furtado de Medeiros and Feliciana de Medeiros (though I can see her name).
