thanks Pam, I tried that awhile back. When I right click on it, nothing happens and when I go to file and click on properies, nothing happens, But thanks for trying I really appreciate it. Some of these computer mysteries are baffling. LOL. Amazing how a file can make itself read only. take care.. Herb
