Another way this chart can be used, when you get your Family Finder Results in, is for example you have a Relationship Range of "5th to Remote Cousin". You simply look at the center of the chart for 5th cousin and you see on the outside column "4th Great Grand Parent". This is where you should start looking for a common ancestor. If you do not find the common Ancestor here then go the "5th Great Grand Parent. The common ancestor should be in the that generation range.

Once you and another person have found a common ancestor then by entering the relationship to each of the two people you can easily find the relationship without plotting and combining two trees.
