Fred E,

He's abbreviating. The 2nd line:
Igra. de N.Sna? Sra? da Luz, do Lugar dos Fenais ...

Line 3, after Maria Jacinta:
natural desta Parochial Ig.ra de N. Sna? Sra?
Line 4:
de Amesenta (what?) do lugar de Capellas

Now, here's what I would do. Have your word list for the abbreviations (or
make your own). Igra. or Ig.ra is Igresia (church). The N. Sna or Sra is
the abbreviation for Nossa Senhora. Now, go out to the Azores GenWeb to
verify the translation and match up the church name and freguesia. Here's
the direct link for Sao Miguel: http://goo.gl/s8BQsn

Scroll down to the Fs and you will see Fenais de Ajuda and Fenais da Luz
and the church in Fenais da Luz is Nossa Senhora da Luz. (Not to mention
Kathy has a link to the CCA site).

Now, look at the Cs for Capelas. The church there is Nossa Senhora da
Apresentacao, so that is what the priest was trying to write in his
flourishy handwriting.

You can thank Kathy Cardoza for the great cross-reference of the Azores
GenWeb.
