Hi, Matt, This is weird, but I think I may know your mother. Are you related to Esmeralda, who also lives in Vancouver but is spending the semester in Costa da Caparica, Portugal? I met her a couple of years ago at Disquiet. I know her family is from Lagoa. If she is your mother, she's your first, best resource, and she's probably already given you a wealth of information about your ancestors.

(Arrifes and Lagoa are not too far apart.) The woman who put this together is an experienced researcher, and she's collected an amazing amount of information.
