I just wrote a long and detailed message to my cousins in an attempt to convince some to get DNA testing and one of the points I brought up was the fact that we don't all get the same DNA from our parents which is proven because my nephew from my sister has at least one or two matches to people with Portuguese ancestry that I don't show as a match. And I went on to say that if my siblings were all tested (I have 6 siblings) there is a chance we could all represent a much higher percentage of the DNA from each of our parents. Maybe we could reach the level of close to 100% from each.
So that leads me to my question. Does anyone know whether there is a way to check what DNA exactly was passed down to children by the parents? For instance, if one or two more of my siblings were to be tested, is there a way to know what percentage we have total from my father who also got the test? We'll never know that from my mother because she's long deceased, though perhaps that is also possible.
It would be very interesting, because at my father's birthday party yesterday, two attendees were siblings and the only representatives from my deceased aunt's DNA. So if they both got the Family Finder test, could we then estimate how much DNA they two represent from their parents? Even though both are deceased, it seems they could figure it out by adding up what DNA is different for each of them and the total might be 150% of one person's own DNA, making the answer that they have maybe 75% of the DNA the two parents had and 25% of each person's DNA is different than the other sibling. This is all just wild play with numbers, but you should be able to follow me. Just simple math.
