I have my great-grandma's rosary beads. They are plastic and look like the ones you give children that are color coded so you know which decade you are in. They are well worn.
I don't think there are any traditions about passing them down. I wound up with them because I wind up with everything that has to do with family history! If the rosary beads have been used, they have probably been blessed by the original owner before they used them.
