This DNA Day sale (now through Tuesday, April 29) is featuring the Y-DNA 37 marker test (regularly $169 now $135.20 - 20% off). They also have been working on anthropology type things. These are the Short Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNPs) that can place a male on the tree of mankind - the out of Africa stuff. Some people really enjoy getting into anthropology. However, these type of tests do NOT help in a genealogy time frame. If your focus is finding cousins, then SNP testing is not for you. At least not at this time. When the interest changes to anthropology or interest in the out of Africa theory, SNP testing can be done then. These tests are not for women either. It is done on the Y chromosome and only men have that. So if a woman want to have a DNA test done during this current sale, she needs to have a man take the test (uncle, brother, nephew, male cousin). The type of DNA testing focuses on 1 line only: The father's father's father's father of the male taking the test.
