My father's paternal grandmother was from Pico and I was told she had red
hair and green eyes She died from gangrene when I was about 7 months old).
My mother's father had blond hair and blue eyes. He was also from Pico.
My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Goulart(e), which I am told is a
Flemish name. She was from Pico, but I have been told her family at one
point in time lived on Fayal. However, I have not had any luck proving or
disproving that "family story."
