I'm not sure if this will help you, Frank, but I think the Jacob R.
Gervasio in the obit is my great grandfather, who went by the name Jacob
Rodriques and had a farm in the Franklin district. My grandmother told us
that he dropped the Gervasio name because he had a relative (brother?) with
the same initial "J" Rodriques Gervasio and wanted to avoid confusion
between them. He and his wife, Maria do Ceu Alves came from Fajazinha,
Flores, married in 1901 and immediately moved to the farm that he had
previous established. I read the original marriages records from the parish
record and I believe there is an error in the report. There is a Jacinto
Rodriques Gervasio being married in 1891, but my great grandparents record
is for JACOB Rodriques Gervasio and Maria do Ceu Alves. If I am correct in
my assumption that Jacob's father witnessed the marriage, then his name was
Antonio Rodriques Gervasio. (Maria's father also signed the record.) Jacob
was born c. 1867 and died in 1948 and the family is listed in the 1920,
1930, and 1940 census.
