de ele (of him) usually contracted as "dele". It says "...Manuel Joaquim da Silva, madrinha a mulher de ele Philomena..." This would mean the same as Manuel e a sua mulher..., just saying "wife of him" instead of "his wife".
I just don't understand why Manuel's wife's name changed from Margarida to Philomena between the two parts of the record. It doesn't say Margarida, ja defuncta, so I would expect that he has the same wife in both paragraphs. My wife helped me out with the word in the 1865 Topo record that I had trouble with.
