It is up to the individual. Some professionals prefer to stay with the
original spellings however, and in my opinion that slows your search down
if you have the same name in different spellings you will have to rely on
memory. It also impairs family tree comparison with other family members
and creates problems for web trees.

For me I follow Rodrigo Rodrigues style, which is current spelling. Further
to this I know that in the 1800's Joao was written as Joam : )

This is different from anglicized names and surnames. It is related to PT
writing evolution.
