I did speak with her last week, and she mentioned she had 6 people waiting for
information. She said she would work on all on a first come first served basis.

Well Cheri, if she doesnt get ahold of you let me know. Maybe i can text her
and ask for a favor before she goes home from work one day. She is a very nice
lady and i doubt she would have a problem with it. Keep me posted!

Jesse,
I've emailed her twice. I don't know what her work load is nor do I want to
mess it up for other genealogists. I know that as a church secretary, she's got
to do the regular day to day parishioner stuff first. So I guess, I'll wait a
bit longer. Thanks!

I'm posting about St. John the Baptist and Mount Carmel Churches in New
Bedford, Massachusetts and how to obtain information from them. That's the
title of this thread.

At one point you said St. John's (the subject of this thread) and at another
point you said St. Mary's in Rhode Island. Not too sure if you know where you
are looking. So if you aren't talking about St. John the Baptist or Mount
Carmel in New Bedford, Massachusetts, your query about St. Mary's in RI is
going to get lost in here. You probably want to start a new posting called "St.
Mary's in ____ Rhode Island" and post there.
Thanks! Cheri

The church
secretary just told me to me to put the request in an email
and she would get back to me. I sent the email on Monday.
I'll wait and see what I get back. Cheri

Thanks, Joanne, for the
explanation. I will have to wait to see if I can visit St.
John's and ask in person for the information. Living
across the country from them makes it a little difficult.

I’m sorry you
had that experience, Celeste. My sources tell
me that
particular rectory is a bit of a
mess personnel-wise so
I’m not sure
they’d go the extra mile to look in the
files. Parishes need more encouragement like
what we’re
doing in the Archdiocese of
Boston to get them to give us
genealogists
a good helping hand.

I called this

morning, and the church
secretary, Tammy,
said the St. John

books are there. She
won't photocopy
or take a picture

of the book but will
issue a paper
certificate. I told her

the certificate
doesn't have a blank
for the

freguesia/village that
the bride and groom
are from. She

said to state that in an
email to her and
she'll add it

in. So now I play
"wait and
see."

At least we have
confirmation that the
books are there

as of January 2017.
