I wrote a week ago asking about the Portuguese currency that is often
referenced in the obits of 1600-1800`. Some indicate that the person or their
relatives had to pay either in reis, Vintens or Tostoes according to the time
and the cost of the funeral. Does anyone know the value of these? then? and
perhaps now? I know the reis is an early form of the Escudo but nothing about
the others,
