You'll want to use the modern spelling of "Faial." You probably won't find much in the U.S. on a man who lived there from 1900 to 1908-1909. You might find him in city directories, listed on his children's baptisms, or in court records if he wound up in court. It's probably too short of a time period to find out very much on him.
