I decided that I needed to update my tree that I carry around on my phone, since I may be consulting it when I'm in the Ozarks, trying to hunt down my mom's relatives.
I have an Android phone (older Samsung S4) with GedStar Pro on it. GedStar is an app that DISPLAYS my genealogical information only. So if I run into my mom's first cousin and don't have her kids, I can't enter it on my phone. I'll have to write it down and then enter it on my computer (Windows PC). How this works: I downloaded GedStar Pro onto my computer (from gedstarpro.com). GedStar Pro can read directly from Legacy Family Tree or The Master Genealogist. For any other programs, you'll have to make a Gedcom file and direct GedStar Pro to read your Gedcom. Once GedStar Pro read my file and named it BlahBlah.gedstar, I sent that file to Google Drive (you can also use Dropbox). Then I downloaded GedStar Pro onto my Android phone. I had to use the Internet and go to gedstarpro.com. The app is not in the Play Store. Once it was installed on my phone, I somehow managed to have it retrieve the file from Google Drive. I now have my most recent file on my phone with me for my viewing and consulting pleasure. Note: I had GedStar Pro on my phone already with a file that was about 1.5 years old. I couldn't figure out how to override the file, so I just deleted the app from my phone, reinstalled it, and had that read my more recent file. Maybe I would update it more than every 1.5 years if I could figure it out! Since I don't have a Mac computer or an iPhone, I don't know what similar apps are out there for that platform, but I bet there's something. Just thought I'd mention this product (it's free) for those who like to carry their genealogy with them.
